defense-of-absurdity:

I know people think Gryffindor is boring and overrated because they “hog all the attention” in HP.

But don’t be discouraged, little lion

courage, motivation, confidence, hope, determination, bravery…

Make you just as special.

thought you might like this too. and to get the large versions of the handles and shafts (they have to be done separately), you go to your profile, right click on the handle (or shaft) click “copy image location”, paste the url, and you have the small version. to get the large version, you have to go to the end of the url and change “.sm.png” to “.png”. when you do it with the shafts, they all come out the same size. i tried our wands because yours is like four inches longer than mine, but our shafts come out the same.

Thanks! That’s pretty nifty. Publishing it in case anyone else wants to reassemble their wand.

I find it a little odd that elder wood in its natural state is actually that white aspen color, but they gave it the 2nd-lightest shade instead. (Also, would’ve expected silver lime to be lighter, but I’m not a wood expert or anything.)

Hungarian student Kincso Nagy, has re-imagined beautiful, new glow-in-the-dark covers for all seven of the Harry Potter books as part of her BA project in Design. She has also fully illustrated the first installment, Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone, which is filled with stenciled images that each have some “playing” part, popping up or opening to reveal further images.

The books aren’t for sale right now, but I am holding my breath for someone to pick up these gorgeous little beasts!

Anonymous asked: The perfect work environment for each of the houses

hogwartshousehabits:

Gryffindor:

As un-cubicle prison as possible. While cubicles themselves aren’t a problem, we need a fair amount of physical freedom. Being able to wander, sit in different places, work on different things. Big counter-height tables for spreading out and working standing or sitting on stools. laid back but enthusiastic about GETTING SHIT DONE. Lots of hands on methods of planning. Weird shit like Google or Grizzl from Parks & Rec.

Hufflepuff:

Piles. Piles everywhere. Things organized in piles, but hey, that thing you want is RIGHT HERE. If not piles, then folders. Or piles and folders. We want our own space, even if it’s a small bit of it. Respect in the work place. We want to feel like people are listening to us and that we matter. Feedback is important. I feel like Hufflepuffs always feel like they can do better, that they’re not working hard enough. We need to be told we are, but also be told when we need to improve. The ability to joke around. We should at least like ONE of our coworkers. We like to feel that perfect amount of busy, where we’re not bored but not overwhelmed. We like it when we can help people.

I sort of went all over there, lol, sorry guys!

Ravenclaw:

Ideal or realistic? Because realistically we’re all over the place. We need to be crazy messy physically because that’s how we keep our minds flowing. But trust us when we say that we know where everything is because there’s an order to it all. But ideally, we’re the same really. Freedom to keep the place how we want, so shared desks and spaces don’t work the BEST for us. Stimulating things around us so that if we lose creativity or the drive to continue, we can get inspired by our surroundings. Jamie said weird places like Google HQ for Gryffindors, but I really see that for Ravenclaws as well. Somewhere that we can freely express ourselves unrestricted.

Slytherin:

An office that proudly displays all of our accomplishments, degrees, and titles. We want people to know that we are the boss and that we are in control. Professional attire. Workspace is clean and organized nicely to maintain professional presentation and efficiency. Meeting rooms are also important in effectively displaying leadership and communicating ideas to others. Collaboration is key with everyone working autonomously on individual projects but also able to contribute to the whole.

a-commonplace-book asked: Hi! I know you closed the sorting survey asks, but I was just wondering if you would consider putting out a general sorting guide or description of the character of each house to help students who are chosen by more than one house to decide which one they really belong in? It would be very much appreciated! :)

official-ilvermorny:

Thank you for the ask! I’d love to! Here is the information that’s been adopted as the official defining traits for the Ilvermorny Houses

Wampus: House of Warriors, House of the Body
Horned Serpent: House of Scholars, House of the Mind
Pukwudgie: House of Healers, House of the Heart
Thunderbird: House of Adventurers, House of the Soul

Here are the explanations that are generally accepted by those who understand the Ilvermorny Houses:

Wampus will accept anyone who is always willing to put up a fight (this doesn’t necessarily mean they’re belligerent, though this is often the case as well). What they’re fighting for is a different matter entirely - survival, justice, equality, ambitions - as is how they do so - physically, magically, mentally, verbally. It also accepts those who somehow focus on, primarily use, or try to improve their physical body - Quodpot players, weightlifters, gymnasts, duelers, martial artists, dancers, etc.

Horned Serpent will accept anyone who focuses on improvement and use of the mind. It doesn’t matter what they’re using their mind for - Potions, Quodpot strategies, Arithmancy, chess, Hebrew Practices, bomb making - it just matters that they focus on the mind primarily. Similarly, it accepts all those that could be considered scholars - those who go straight to the books (or the internet) when looking for an answer and studying up on it and everything related.

Pukwudgie accepts healers of all kinds, regardless of what they heal - bodies, minds, self-esteem, animals, plants, relationships. It also accepts those who are center around their heart - emotions, love, friendship, loyalty, compassion, charity, selflessness - and as such, includes a large variety of interests - Magizoologists, literal Healers, teachers, historians, Herbologists, counselors, Potioneers, diplomats, social workers, etc.

Thunderbird accepts anyone who longs and searches for adventure. Adventure takes many forms, however - traveling, exploring, meeting new people, reading, flying, inventing, discovering - which means that there are many types of Thunderbirds - those who sneak out after curfew, or have their heads stuck in the clouds, or won’t stop talking in class. It also seeks those who are or who wish to be “in tune” with their souls in some way or other - religious and spiritual people, Seers, artists, musicians, etc.

This isn’t completely inclusive of everyone in every House - in fact, it’s just the opposite. There are so many people who are different than all the others who have just as much right to be in that House. Also, if you are given a spot in two or more Houses, I’d say choose where you’d be most comfortable (ex: I was offered a place in both Horned Serpent and Thunderbird, but I chose Thunderbird because that’s where both of my parents came from).

I hope this was what you were looking for and made sense! Feel free to ask anything else about the Houses or other parts of Ilvermorny and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible!
